ICE shares 9 minutes of video from Omaha raid, says one person assaulted officers
OMAHA, Neb. — Immigrations and Customs Enforcement is sharing more about Tuesday’s raid of an Omaha meat packing company that led to dozens of detainments and a major protest in the city.
ICE shared nine minutes of edited video of the raid at Glenn Valley Foods, a company that makes ready-to-grill steak. The video shows officers entering the facility, tracking down employees who were hiding and gathering workers into a room. The video then shows officers collecting digital fingerprints and checking identification. Later, the processes move outside where officers confiscated belongings, used zip ties to restrain workers’ hands and escorted them onto a bus. The video also shows scenes from a detention facility where officers shackled the workers’ legs, searched them and locked them in a room.
In a news release, ICE officials say officers detained more than 70 people identified as illegal aliens in the largest enforcement operation in Nebraska this year. The release says some had active local warrants and some had been previously deported. Many may now face additional federal charges.
Most seriously, ICE says one person who was in the country illegally brandished a weapon and assaulted federal agents.
