LINCOLN, Neb. — News Channel Nebraska (NCN) is teaming up with Nebraska Athletics to televise Husker sports on one of the biggest days of the spring for Big Red fans.
NCN will broadcast the Nebraska women’s soccer match against Wyoming on Saturday, April 26, beginning at 4:15 p.m. CT.
“We are thrilled to showcase the Huskers on our statewide TV network,” said News Channel Nebraska CEO Andy Ruback. “This will give hundreds of thousands of Nebraskans the chance to watch the soccer team over the air for free or through their existing TV package. We’re proud to continue to grow our outstanding partnership with Husker Athletics.”
The match will be televised to more than 500,000 homes across the state on News Channel Nebraska and streamed online on BTN+. The contest is part of The Husker Games, which is intended to replace the traditional Red-White Husker football game, not being played this spring.
“Adding Husker soccer to our lineup highlights the range of sports we cover,” said Brandon Aksamit, NCN executive director of sports content. “Whether it’s Supernovas volleyball in Omaha, the six-man state football championship in Kearney or the middle school state track meet in Gothenburg, NCN is committed to connecting Nebraskans through our sports programming.”
The soccer broadcast marks the next step in NCN’s growing partnership with Husker Athletics. NCN also televises the Husker football and basketball coaches shows. Additionally, the company has the largest representation within the Huskers Radio Network, with nine of its radio stations serving as official members.
The Nebraska soccer team is just one season removed from reaching the NCAA quarterfinals and finishing in the top 15 nationally. Earlier this month, the Huskers earned a 3-1 win at Iowa State.
