COLUMBUS, Neb. -- The City of Columbus announced on Monday they are planning a public open house for the Columbus Community Building.

The Columbus Community Building was a voter-approved building that is located at 2500 14th St.

The public is invited to the open house on Saturday.

The celebration will be on July 8 from 9 a.m. to noon.

The City said it will start at 9 a.m. with a brief ribbon-cutting even outside the front entrance along 14th St.

The Scheduled speakers are Mayor Jim Bulkley, City Engineer Rick Bogus, and City Administrator Tara Vasicek.

Around 9:30 a.m., the public will be able to tour the spaces in the three-level building.

"It's hard to believe that this awesome project is completed," Bulkley said. "Voter-approved, built on schedule and on budget. Boy, those are three terms that you do not hear mentioned together often."

Bulkley said that a lot of hard work has gone into getting to this point.

"I am confident that the public will be proud of what we have presented, and I look forward to this facility becoming the cornerstone of our downtown for generations to come."

The City said that in addition to the ribbon-cutting and being able to tour the open spaces of the building, there will be activities planned for people of all ages that will be conducted by the Columbus Arts Council and Columbus Public Library.
