Pierce's Ben Brahmer switches commitment to Iowa State

PIERCE, Neb. -- Nebraska appears to have lost a prized in-state football recruit from its 2023 class.
Ben Brahmer, who set multiple records while helping Pierce claim a Class C-1 state championship this season, has switched his commitment from Nebraska to Iowa State, according to multiple sources. By Tuesday morning, he had switched his Twitter profile to indicate that he was an Iowa State commitment.
Brahmer committed in April of 2021, becoming the first member of the Huskers' 2023 recruiting class.
Iowa State offered Brahmer a scholarship on Feb. 10 of 2021, nine days before Nebraska extended an offer.
New Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule visited Brahmer over the weekend while making a stop in Norfolk during a statewide tour.
Brahmer was a part of a Pierce squad, coached by his father Mark Brahmer, that reached four straight state title games, winning the championship in his sophomore and senior seasons.
The tight end recruit is the second in-state commitment to pull back on their pledge in the past week, joining Lincoln East's Malachi Coleman.
Nebraska currently has 11 commitments in its recruiting class, including in-state recruits Gunnar Gottula, Brock Knutson and Sam Sledge.
The early signing period for Division I football recruits runs from Dec. 21 until Dec. 23. The regular signing period starts Feb. 1.
