Vehicle collides with train in Columbus, no injuries

COLUMBUS, Neb. -- A stranded car was destroyed after being hit by a train east of Columbus on Wednesday.
The Platte County Sheriff's Office said they dispatched officers to a railroad crossing at E 29th Avenue for a reported car-train accident at 10:46 p.m.
Officers said they determined that the driver of a 2016 Ford Fusion turned east off of E 29th Avenue onto the railroad tracks. When the driver was on the tracks, they continued driving until the vehicle became stranded on the tracks.

Manuel was arrested and charged with a second offense driving under the influence and then transported to the Platte County Detention Facility.
The report said the damage done to the Fusion was a total loss and the estimated damage to the train was $5,000.
Officials said E 29th Avenue remained closed for two hours for investigation and clean up. The Platte County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Nebraska State Patrol, Union Pacific Railroad, and the Columbus Police Department.
