FREMONT, Neb. – A Fremont woman facing accusations of embezzling money from a youth soccer club is due in Dodge County court this week.

The Fremont Police Department initiated an investigation into 45-year-old Anna Stone in October of 2021. After conversations with representatives of the Fremont Soccer Club, investigators requested bank records and copies of canceled checks.

Investigators say Stone, who was the treasurer of the soccer club at the time, wrote over 30 checks from the club to her husband, Chad Stone. According to court records, Anna Stone’s checks to her husband totaled over $24,000 during a 25-month period between 2019 and 2020. Police investigators say only two of the checks to Chad Stone were under $200, with the rest ranging from $300 to $2,000.

Representatives from the soccer club said that no checks were ever authorized to be written to Chad Stone. Fremont Soccer Club officials also stated that cash sales from a 2020 soccer tournament were never deposited into the club’s bank account.

Court records state that the club’s financial records had not been well-maintained, leading to initial difficulty in determining how much money should be in the club’s bank account.

The Fremont Soccer Club addressed the allegations in a Facebook post on Monday.

"The Club has cooperated with law enforcement and hopes for a fair and speedy resolution of the matter," the statement read. "Until that has been completed, the Club cannot comment further on the matter."

Anna Stone is due in court on Thursday morning.
