COLUMBUS - Columbus Community Hospital has armed some folks a tool to help them breathe easier.

It might not be what some would imagine.

The hospital is giving harmonicas to members of its Lung Crusaders support group.

CCH said using the small, pocket-sized instrument can help those with COPD and other chronic lung diseases better control their breathing.

They said people with lung disease tend to trap old air in their air sacks and that playing harmonicas help them get it out, similar to other breathing techniques.

The Lung Crusaders support group meets at 3 p.m. on the second Wednesday in February, April, June, August and October at CCH.

If you would like more information, contact the Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation Department at (402) 562-3344.
