HASTINGS, Neb. — The seat is currently held by Sen. Dave Murman, who is term-limited.

Tim Anderson announced his candidacy in June of last year. Anderson lists his priorities as providing property tax relief, defending Nebraska agriculture and supporting the Second Amendment.

“I’ve lived the challenges our communities face—on the farm, in city hall and around the kitchen table. Now, I’m running to be a strong voice for you—to fight for our farms, our families and our freedoms.”

Melanie Knight of Clay Center filed her paperwork last November. Knight said she hopes to address the ongoing loss of health care and mental health resources across rural Nebraska.

“I will be your voice in the Legislature, prioritizing and protecting our hospitals and emergency response; our schools, students and teachers; jobs and small businesses; and our communities.”

Wes Wilmot of Beaver City filed his candidacy paperwork in January. In his announcement, Wilmot said, “Rural Nebraskans deserve a conservative fighter who will stand up for them and ensure their voice is heard in Lincoln.”

Jon Capps of Blue Hill announced his candidacy in late January. Capps, an Army veteran, business leader and “Nebraska First” conservative, said, “I’ve officially filed because Nebraska needs leaders who understand the limits of government, respect the Constitution and are willing to stand up for the people they represent.”

Most recently, GROW Nebraska CEO Janell Anderson Ehrke announced her candidacy earlier this week. In her announcement, Ehrke detailed a focus on entrepreneurship and helping small businesses adopt social media, digital marketing and other strategies to succeed.

The deadline to file for candidacy is March 4.
