Sidney non-profit fair draws more than 30 agencies
SIDNEY -- The Sidney Elks Lodge crowded in a room full of non-profit agencies Tuesday afternoon.
The event was hosted by the Cheyenne County Chamber of Commerce, E3 and Sidney and Cheyenne County Economic Development.
Near the end of the event, E3 Navigator Alisha Juelfs talked about the number of organizations represented.
"Of course, you're not sure how many people will come. That is the joy of these events is that we have to test it out to kind of see where it goes. With that, we had over 30 agencies registered. So, its going to show how many non-profits are in Cheyenne County, and this is just a very small portion," Juelfs said.
Jessie Lopez, representing United Way of Western Nebraska, talked about their program.
"We're located out of Scottsbluff and Gering. We have an office in Alliance as well. We're here at the Non-Profit Fair to help Sidney and the non-profits. This is one of the areas that we help contribute and help support the community," Lopez said.
Some of the programs United Way supports is Stuff the Bus school supply collection, food distributions, and the United Way is starting mobile food pantries in some communities, he said.
Tiffany Hernandez of Banisters Leadership Academy EASLA Program explained what the program offers Cheyenne County.
"Banisters Leadership Academy is a non-profit and our mission is to strengthen youth and families through leadership. We do that through various different programs and projects that teach leadership, life, social and job readiness skills at no cost to families," Hernandez said.
Banister Leadership Academy is preparing to open a program in Sidney.
The event was an opportunity for the public to learn about the many non-profit organizations in Cheyenne County and what they have to offer.
Thirty-three agencies were represented at the Non-profit Fair. Agencies included Teammates, A Night of Hope Walk for Cancer Foundation, Banisters Leadership Academy EASLA Program, Cheyenne County CERT, Cheyenne County Chamber, Cheyenne County Community Center Foundation, Cheyenne County Rotary Club, Christian’s Love: A Pregnancy Loss Support Foundation, E3 Energizing Entrepreneurial Ecosystems, Friends of the Sidney Public Library, Here Wee Grow, High Plains Art Council, Keep Sidney Beautiful, Leadership Cheyenne County, Living Memorial Gardens, Nebraska Extension, Office of Human Development, Panhandle Partnership, PlainsWest CASA, Potter Lions Club, Sidney and Greater Area (SAGA) Fund, Sidney Creative District, Sidney Elks Lodge #1894, Sidney Gold Rush Days, Sidney Oktoberfest, Sidney Volunteer Fire Department, South Platte Natural Resources District, SRMC Health Center Foundation, Sullivan Hills Camp, TeamMates of Sidney, The DOVES Program, United Way of Western Nebraska, Way Out West Community Theatre and Women in Ag.
