HASTINGS, Neb. - The Nebraska Department of Transportation anticipates installation of replacement traffic signals for the intersection of U.S. Highway 6 and Showboat Boulevard by Commonwealth Electric Company of Grand Island the week of Aug. 18-22.

The pole in the northeast corner of the intersection supports cables and traffic signals for northbound and eastbound traffic and was damaged in an accident on Sunday, June 15. The intersection has been functioning as an all-way stop (4-way stop) with red flashing signals and four-way stop signs since the accident.

This is an approximate schedule subject to change depending on delivery of the equipment needed to support the replacement of the damaged traffic signals.

The signals are anticipated to be put into service soon after installation of the replacement hardware.

Traffic signals at the intersection will be upgraded to steel poles with traffic signal mast arms as part of the Nebraska Department of Transportation’s Hastings Southeast Project scheduled for 2026 and 2027.
