FRIDAY, 7/25/25...

NEBRASKA CITY, Neb. – Syracuse Post 100 kicked off the Nebraska American Legion Class B Seniors Area 1 tournament with a victory over the First National Bank Auburn Post 23 squad in a 5-2 finish on Friday afternoon. Syracuse’s Eliott Harden threw three innings of work with four strikeouts and was awarded the win over Auburn’s Christian Gage.

Syracuse was led by Mason Jording who went two for three with a double and a walk, alongside Gavin Kelch who went two for three with 2 RBIs, and Tyler Sears who recorded two doubles and three RBIs. Auburn was led offensively by Corbyn Jakub who went two for four with a run and stolen base recorded, Landon Casey who went one for three with a walk and a run, and Noah Erickson who hit a double good for an RBI.

 

SAT, 7/26/25...

Plattsmouth Post 56 got the best of Beatrice Post 27 in the Nebraska American Legion Class B Seniors Area 1 tournament’s opening round game, barely winning with a 6-5 finish on Saturday morning. The game had been postponed due to the weather on Friday.

Plattsmouth started off recording a 2-0 first inning by retiring the side in order and then getting three hits and two runs on the board. Beatrice would respond with a double from Brandon Rademacher who plated Isaac DeBoer to make the score 2-1 at the end of the second. Beatrice would then follow up with a two-run third inning getting back-to-back doubles from Nolan Schmale & Ty Weichel, putting Beatrice on top 3-2. The bats would remain silent until the fifth, when Beatrice would add on two insurance runs from another double by Rademacher to make it 5-2. Plattsmouth would respond with a two-run fifth inning as well, with singles and RBIs from Eli Winters & Levi Walker. Plattsmouth would take starting pitcher Ty Weichel to the final out. He threw 107 pitches and recorded nine strikeouts in six and two-thirds innings of work when he was replaced with James Scholl. Scholl threw two wild pitches and surrendered the game to Plattsmouth.

 

Number two seed Nemaha Sports Construction Lincoln Christian took down the tournament host Wehling Insurance Nebraska City Post 8 in a 6-0 decision early Saturday afternoon.

Lincoln Christian was led by Grant DeHaan, who went three for three with a double and a stolen base. Paxton Bailey also hit a pair of doubles, while Ian Brewster hit a single and a double to go two for three at the plate. Elam Bryson hit a solo home run in the second inning to start the scoring for Lincoln Christian.

Nebraska City was led by Sam Rovetto who had a two for four game with a double in the fifth. Greyson Flash went two for three and stole a base, and Riley Penny hit a double in the 4th inning. Nebraska City left eight runners on the bases. Starting pitcher Trevor Tesarek threw three innings, allowing four runs and recording six strikeouts.

 

In round two action, Hickman showed why it's the top seed by crushing Syracuse, 22-6, in four frames. Syracuse led 2-0 after the first inning, but Hickman responded with eight runs in the second, four in the third, and a ten-spot in the fourth.

 

The next Saturday contest saw Lincoln Christian get its second win of the day, this time defeating Plattsmouth, 11-0.

Finally, the five-game Saturday finished with the first elimination of the tourney as Nebraska City battled back from a 4-0 deficit to eliminate Beatrice, 12-4.

 

SUN, 7/27/25...

On Sunday afternoon, First National Bank Auburn Post 23 was eliminated by the Plattsmouth Post 56 squad, 13-5 in six innings. Auburn was led offensively by Christian Gage. He went two for four with a run. He was also assisted by Gavin Bauer, who recorded a double and an RBI, plus a stolen base. Mason Schultz, the starting pitcher, threw over 90 pitches and recorded two strikeouts. Plattsmouth was led offensively by the efforts of Louis Ingram, who went one for two, drew a walk, and recorded three runs. They also were led by Chance Jackson, who went two for three with three RBIs and a double. The player of the game was Levi Walker, who went a perfect four for four, with a double and three RBIs. Louis Ingram got the start on the mound and recorded five strikeouts while getting the win. Auburn's season is not over, as they'll be hosting the American Division portion of the State Tournament, receiving an automatic bid into the tourney with those duties.

In the battle of unbeaten teams in the bracket, Hickman took care of business over Lincoln Christian, 17-3. That puts Hickman into the championship round & secures a place in the State Tourney for the team, which now has a record of 36-4 on the season.

The night concluded with Syracuse ending the season of the host squad, as Nebraska City came up short in an offensive shootout, 23-10. Syracuse did the damage with just ten hits, while NC finished with five. Gavin Kelch piled up six RBI and blasted a home run in the victory.

 

MON, 7/28/25...

In the night's opener, Lincoln Christian ended Syracuse's season with a 13-6 final. The Post 500 squad was led by Caleb DeWitt, who flexed his muscle with two home runs & four RBI in the game.

In the nightcap, Hickman continued to look like the team to beat in Class B, shutting out Plattsmouth to end Post 56's season, 8-0. Jordan Monroe hit one out for Hickman, while Gavin Crogg finished with two RBI. Derek Nanke suffered the loss for Plattsmouth, allowing 4R on 7H with 2K & 1BB in 2.1 IP.

Hickman & Lincoln Christian will each move on to the State Tournament that starts Saturday in Auburn (American Division) & Minden (National Division). The teams will face one another in Neb. City for the Area 1 Title at 5pm Tuesday. Hickman will need just one win to take the Area crown.
