Peru State College Adds Distance Track Programs for Next Season

PERU, NE - Peru State College is excited to announce the addition of Men's and Women's Indoor and Outdoor Distance Track programs. These new programs will compete in middle and long-distance events within the NAIA and Heart of America Conference, starting in the upcoming 2025-2026 season.
"We are excited to welcome Indoor and Outdoor Distance Track to our athletic program; a sport that exemplifies endurance, discipline, and heart. This is an incredible opportunity for our student athletes to build community and achieve excellence. We look forward to cheering on our runners as they represent Peru State with pride." Says Interim President, Wendy Waugh.
The addition of this program is in part made possible by the completion of Project ROAR (Phase 1). The new 85,000-square-foot indoor facility provides ample space for training of all kinds. It also sets the foundation for increased recreational use for the anticipated increase in enrollment.
Here's what Athletic Director, Kyle Pond had to say about the additions:
"Peru has previously offered men's and women's cross-country programs. By adding the distance track programs, we will align with other institutions. Before this step, prospective distance athletes had to sacrifice indoor and outdoor track if they wanted to attend Peru State College."
"Our distance student-athletes will now be able to compete in all three seasons as is the NAIA norm. We are confident that this will allow us to serve our current and future students to the fullest and advance our distance program. "
With these exciting additions, the College now boasts 17 varsity sports programs. A nationwide search will commence immediately to find the Bobcats' First Head Distance and Cross Country Coach.
