DORCHESTER, Neb. - The Nebraska State Activities Association has created a weekly award which they say serves to "celebrate the incredible individuals who make a difference in Nebraska's schools and communities." And this week's winner of the Above and Beyond Award is Sharon Axline of Dorchester.

Better known as Mimi, she's affectionately called the "grandma figure" for many young students throughout the Dorchester community. Mimi volunteers in the cafeteria and classrooms, and is both a vocal supporter of and ace photographer for Longhorn athletics and performing arts, and she's famous for sharing her homemade cookies with students and staff ahead of every major holiday.

The following is the full release from the NSAA honoring Mimi Axline with this week's Above and Beyond award. She was nominated by Jill Choyeski; if you'd like to nominate someone from your school community who is deserving of this recognition, head to this link.
