Lincoln Street reconstruction underway, in Beatrice

BEATRICE – Construction to improve Lincoln Street next to the new Beatrice Public Schools elementary facility got underway this week.
The street is now closed from near the Christ Community Church to Lincoln and 33rd. Mayor Bob Morgan says this first phase is getting underway slightly later than expected.

"The BPW had all their electrical lines and things moved, but we needed the gas company to come in a move some lines, because we don't want to hit those as we're starting the construction project. It took a little longer to get those moved."

The first phase includes the construction of the roundabout at 33rd and Lincoln. The construction work will be going on while the school facility opens for its first year.

"I know that their timetable was pretty aggressive as far as the construction of that. They wanted to try to maybe get everything done by right around Christmas time. That will really depend on what type of fall, we have. But this first section, I think we're looking at three months, to three-and-a-half months."

The second phase of the project is resurfacing part of 33rd Street along the east side of the school property. The final phase will be on Lincoln Street to the west of the Christ Community Church.
