Columbus standoff leads to arrest

COLUMBUS, Neb. -- The Columbus Police Department arrested a man after a standoff on Wednesday.
CPD said officers were sent to the 1400 block of 21st Ave. at 1:12 a.m. on Wednesday for a report of a man going into a home without permission.
Officers said the intruder was a 35-year-old man and he was yelling and screaming inside the home. The suspect reportedly had been arrested before for assault and resisting arrest.
According to authorities, they told the suspect to come out of the home in order to de-escalate the situation but he did not listen. The officers reportedly got a search warrant due to the suspect's "erratic behavior and continued disturbance of the neighborhood," and evacuated the other homes in the area.
Officials said they told the suspect that they had a search warrant at 4:30 a.m. and asked him again to come out of the home. Officers reportedly gave the suspect three more warnings and warned him that a Police Service Dog would be used.
Police said the suspect continued to not cooperate with them and did not leave the home. They were reportedly able to take the suspect into custody at 4:37 a.m. with the help of PSD Eros and CPD drone operators.
CPD said the suspect received minor injuries from a dog bite but was medically cleared. The suspect was reportedly housed at the Platte County Detention Center and charged for disturbing the peace, first-degree criminal trespass, and obstruction of a police animal.
