GRAND ISLAND, NE — Three young children are safe after authorities say they were kidnapped overnight in sub-zero temperatures.

Grand Island Police say a man reported his SUV stolen around 3:00 Sunday morning. Officers found the vehicle, but weren’t able to stop it and cut off their pursuit. They later found out the man’s five-year-old, one-year-old and seventh-month-old children were in the car.

Authorities later found the SUV and two suspects in Buffalo County but the kids weren’t inside. The Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office and the Nebraska State Patrol arrested a 17-year-old from Hastings and 18-year-old Tate Wolfe of Kearney.

Grand Island Police started a canvas search and found a stolen vehicle out of Kearney just before 5:00 a.m. The five-year-old and one-year-old kidnapping victims were found inside, but not the infant.

Police then issued a county-wide alert in an attempt to locate the infant. At 5:25, police say a rural Hall County resident found the infant abandoned on the porch of a farm house.

All three children were transported to a hospital to be treated for hypothermia and frostbite.

The two suspects are lodged in the Hall County Jail on suspicion of three counts of kidnapping, three counts of child abuse resulting in injury, possession of stolen property and flight to avoid arrest. Additional charges are also possible.
