COLUMBUS, Neb. -- The City of Columbus has declared both a winter storm warning and a snow emergency for Wednesday.

A winter storm warning was issued for Platte County by the National Weather Service. The warning is for 6:00 a.m. Wednesday until 6:00 a.m. Thursday.

Wind gusts are forecasted to be as high as 25 to 35 mph with forecasted snowfall of six to 15 inches. The City of Columbus declared a snow emergency as well that will take place at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday and will continue until further notice.

For cul-de-sacs and emergency snow routes, there will be no parking allowed and the City of Columbus encourages people to park off streets for all residential streets. Officials ask people to do this so that city crews can remove snow more efficiently.

Any vehicles that are parked along listed or posted emergency snow routes during a snow emergency will be issued a citation or will have their vehicle towed.

Officials would like to remind citizens that the owner and/or occupant of real estate is responsible for removing snow and/or ice from sidewalks within 24 hours of precipitation ending. With the anticipated dangerous road conditions, the City of Columbus encourages people to not travel on city streets.
