Ricketts to seek Sasse's senate seat

NEBRASKA -- The much-speculated-about plans for current Gov. Pete Ricketts after his term ends became official on Tuesday.
According to a statement from the Governor, he is planning to apply for outgoing U.S. Senator Ben Sasse's Senate Seat.
Speculation about Ricketts' potential for that seat began almost immediately upon Sasse accepting the job as President of the University of Florida.
The timeline works well for a potential Ricketts appointment. Governor Elect Jim Pillen announced Monday that he's seeking nominations for Ricketts' post. Pillen gets sworn in on Jan. 5, three days later, Sasse will officially resign from officer. This means Pillen will choose his replacement.
Ricetts ran for the U.S. Senate in 2006, losing to then Democratic incumbent Ben Nelson.
Anyone in the public can apply for the job. Pillen's Office said Monday that he will be accepting applications until Dec. 23.
