COLUMBUS, Neb. -- Loup Power District is warning customers to be on guard against phone calls from scammers.

Several Loup customers have reported receiving phone calls from scammers threatening to disconnect the electricity due to past-due balances. These scammers often use caller ID spoofing so that it appears that the call is coming from Loup or a local phone number.

Loup customers are urged to take note of these tips to avoid falling victim to scammers:

·       Never give personal information to an unknown caller or visitor. Our representatives have access to the details they need to service your account.

·       Demands for immediate payment by wire transfer, cryptocurrency, gift cards or cash reload cards should immediately raise red flags.

If you think you’ve been contacted by a scammer falsely representing Loup or another utility, hang up and call your local Loup Power District office.
