What was inside the time capsule of Boone County?
Boone County uncovered a large donation from the past, Sunday.
ALBION, Neb. -- The Boone County Historical Society's museum unwrapped a unique treasure of presents from the past, Sunday.
"The first board members in 1972 had dug the first spade full of dirt and put this building up, and in that process created the time capsule," said Mary Jane Noble, 2022 president of the museum, which is located in Albion. "It was not found for years, it was between two large display cases [...] about 15, 16 years ago maybe was when it was found by Pat Boyleson."
"I don't know what's in there," said Mel Andrews, a former board member and the oldest living employee the museum knows.
Items included ended up being many more additions to their collection of nearly four thousand artifacts.
Officials expect to create a new exhibit based on the contents, which ended up including newspapers, clothing, documents, a dunce hat, tickets, and medals from the centennial.
They also plan to make a new time capsule later this month, with perhaps a DVD or other relics of our era.
"If you think about it, would they even have batteries?" Noble said.
She also plans to include item from this first capsule.
