COLUMBUS, Neb. -- An airplane took off from a street in Columbus Wednesday morning after reportedly making an emergency landing in a cornfield the prior evening.
The Platte County Sheriff's Office was among the authorities responding to the scene. According to Lt. Kevin Schuller, the plane was experiencing a "fuel issue" and the plane landed just before dark on Tuesday evening.
Schuller said a man and his son, who is a flight instructor, were the lone occupants.
The plane was towed Tuesday evening and the fuel issue was resolved.
The Platte County Sheriff's Office then cleared space on E. 8th Street on the southeast side of Columbus Wednesday morning for the plane to taxi and take off. Schuller said the specific stretch of roadway was chosen due to a lack of power lines.
There were no injuries reported in the incident.
