SIDNEY – The park in north Sidney is one step closer to a major facelift.

The Sidney City Council approved sending the project out for bid. Interim City Manager Josh Hanson briefed the City Council on the history of the project.

“This project includes sidewalk improvements, removal/replacement of existing playground equipment and construction of a new splash pad,” Hanson said.

He said the project is funded by two grants totaling almost $1.2 million.

Keenan Johnson, representing Brickyard Consulting, updated the Sidney City Council recently on the park project. Brickyard Consulting is contracted for project engineering services.

“It’s been a couple years we’ve been working on this project; early 2024 we were awarded the preliminary design and was completed towards the end of 2024 which then allowed the City to go out for funding requests. Last summer, we were awarded final design and so we worked with City staff to finalize just details, specifications and then anything else that we wanted to do,” Johnson said.

Estimated cost of the project is $1,246,667. Committed funds are about $84,000 short of the projected cost. Hanson said the Parks Department has reserved funds for the park project and the City has several alternatives to meet cost.

Johnson recommended the council approve the project going out to bid. He said Brickyard Consulting has an anticipated bid date of April 2 and the Council could potentially award the bid in the April 14 council meeting.
