Stanton County records high arrest and citation totals in 2025

STANTON, Neb. — The Stanton County Sheriff’s Office is touting its year-end arrest and citation numbers.
Statistics compiled by the 7th Judicial District show that Stanton County issued 2,795 traffic citations and handled 410 criminal cases in 2025. That’s the highest number of traffic cases in the district and the second-highest number of criminal cases.
“Going into my last year as Sheriff, I take a lot of pride in the efforts of my deputies going out and performing at a high level and making Stanton County and all of Northeast Nebraska a safer place to travel and live,” Sheriff Mike Unger said in a statement.
Stanton County’s high numbers come despite having just 5,800 residents, the smallest population in the district. The 7th Judicial District also includes Madison, Wayne, Cuming, Antelope, Pierce and Knox counties.
According to Unger, the numbers represent a 12% increase in traffic citations and 11% increase in criminal filings when compared to 2024.
