Street racing incident lands vehicle in Sterling business

Driver facing multiple charges
STERLING, Colo. -- At about 9:54 p.m. Wednesday, Sterling Police Officers responded to the 300 block of Chestnut Street where a vehicle collided with a building.
The accident occurred at Cattleya Floral. A vehicle collided with the front doors and came to rest inside the building, causing extensive damage.
It was determined that two vehicles were street racing traveling eastbound in the 400 block of East Chestnut Street. Damien Curtis, 20, of Sterling, was driving a 2004 Ford Crown Victoria. The car went out of control and crossed the median, knocking over a light pole. The vehicle then continued east across the westbound lanes of Chestnut Street and into the Cattleya Floral/Steele Terrain building.
The driver of the second vehicle, Corey St. Laurent, 20, of Sterling did not crash, but remained on scene. No injuries to any innocent bystanders were reported.
Curtis and his passenger both sustained injuries but were released. He was released and transported to the Logan County jail on the following charges:

· CRS 42-4-1301(2)(A), DUI Per se w/Blood Alcohol .08 or higher Misdemeanor
· CRS 42-4-1401(1), Reckless Driving
· CRS 18-3-208, Reckless Endangerment, a class 2 Misdemeanor
· CRS 42-2-138(1)(d)(I), Engaged in Speed Contest
· CRS 42-2-138(1)(d)(I), Drove w/Lic Restrained- Exp consent/Alcohol Offense
· CRS 42-4-1409(1), Owner Operated Uninsured MV on Public Highway
· CRS 42-4-1305, Open Container in Motor Vehicle
· CRS 18-6-803.5(1)(a), Violation of a Protection Order
· CRS 18-13-122(3)(B)(a), Minor Possession/Consumption of Alcohol.
