CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Police say an 18-year-old man was shot and killed Wednesday night during an attempted firearm purchase on Ridgeland Street.

Officers responded around 8 p.m. to the 600 block of Ridgeland, where they found the man with a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Cheyenne Police Department.

Investigators say the man and two friends had arrived at the residence to buy a gun from a 16-year-old male. During the exchange, a physical altercation broke out between the 18-year-old and the juvenile seller, which escalated into gunfire.

Detectives have interviewed multiple individuals connected to the incident and are coordinating with the Laramie County District Attorney’s Office as they review the case and determine potential charges.

Authorities say the investigation remains active. The Laramie County Coroner’s Office will release the victim’s identity after notifying family.
