Pioneers' Offense Struggles in Friday Night Loss to Falcons

NEBRASKA CITY, NE - The Nebraska City Pioneers struggled to move the football and finished with only 78 yards on 36 offensive snaps in a 20-7 loss to Douglas County West Falcons on Friday, as heard on Otoe County Country.
DC West jumped on top early as Nolan Asher recovered a fumble from NC quarterback Landon Ferguson and ran it back for a score just 21 seconds into the game for 7-0 lead. Later in the quarter, another issue with the exchange leads to a Falcon fumble recovery, setting up DC West at NC's 10-yard line. Barrett Hinrichs scampered in from there, making it 14-0 late in the first.
In the second quarter, Trey Olsen hit Zane Wohlers for a 9-yard strike, putting the Falcons up 20-0 after a blocked PAT. After a successful squib kick gave DCW the ball right back, Olsen was strip-sacked with the Pioneers recovering the football at their own 31-yard line. After the NC drive stalled, Ferguson pinned DC West inside their own 10-yard line with an impressive punt. Olsen fumbled the snap on the ensuing drive, and Tyrese Gardner gets the scoop n' score from 30 yards out to put NC on the board at 20-7.
The rest of the game was filled with stops, punts, and some turnovers that didn't lead to much.
Nebraska City saw Ferguson go 9/25 passing for 78 yards. Adam Howard led the ground game with just eight carries for 14 yards.
DC West QB Trey Olsen went 8/16 for 89 yards with one TD. Barrett Hinrichs carried the rock 19 times for 100 yards and a score.
Nebraska City (0-2) will look for its first win this Friday when they host Gross Catholic (1-1). The Falcons (1-1) will visit Pierce (2-0).
