TERRYTOWN, Neb. — A dump truck hauling an excavator snagged overhead lines and brought down multiple utilities Saturday morning in Terrytown, closing streets for several hours but causing no injuries, police said.

Scottsbluff police said the crash happened about 7:05 a.m. at Terry Boulevard and Stable Club Road. A black 1986 Freightliner dump truck pulling a yellow 1982 flatbed trailer with a John Deere excavator was headed east on Stable Club Road when the excavator arm caught an Allo Internet line just after South Street, ripping it from a utility pole.

The snag triggered a chain reaction that pulled down a Spectrum cable line and then a Nebraska Public Power District power line, breaking a pole and dropping lines across Stable Club Road, Woodley Park Road and several nearby homes, according to police.

The Scottsbluff driver was cited at the scene for expired license plates. Police said additional charges may be pending.

Stable Club Road reopened about 12:11 p.m. A secondary crash occurred on Woodley Park Road amid the traffic disruption, but no injuries were reported in either crash.

Agencies assisting included the Gering Police Department, Regional West Ambulance Services, Scottsbluff Rural Fire Department, the City of Terrytown Utilities, NPPD, Charter Spectrum and Allo Internet.

Anyone with video of the incident is asked to contact Sgt. Philip Eckerberg at the Scottsbluff Police Department at (308) 632-7176.
