Pierce, Neb. – Zion Lutheran School has officially opened its doors to a brand-new, multi-million dollar facility, marking a significant upgrade to its campus. The new building is designed to enhance security measures, expand play areas for students, and provide much-needed relief to previously cramped classrooms. This development comes in direct response to the growing needs of both the K-8th grade school and its associated church programs.

The original Zion Lutheran School, established in 1915, held a century's worth of memories within its walls. However, the march of time and evolving safety standards had placed the aging structure at odds with modern regulations. Outdated infrastructure and a lack of handicap accessibility meant the building was facing potential closure under current fire marshal codes. Moreover, the school had outgrown its physical limitations. In the past decade alone, student enrollment had doubled, straining the capacity of existing classrooms and underscoring the urgent need for expansion.

Faced with these challenges, Zion Lutheran School and its congregation launched a capital campaign dubbed "Now is the Time," with the ambitious goal of funding a brand-new school and securing a lasting legacy for future generations.

The campaign proved to be a resounding success, raising millions of dollars and unlocking a realm of possibilities that were previously unattainable. The new facility boasts a range of improvements, including a versatile library that doubles as a meeting space for the congregation and afterschool programs. A dedicated playground provides ample space for outdoor recreation, while newly constructed bathrooms on both upper and lower levels, along with handicap-accessible doorways, ensure inclusivity for all.

Security has also been significantly enhanced. The new building requires individuals to pass through three doors to access each classroom, and cameras throughout the building allow staff to monitor activity, maximizing the safety and security of everyone inside. Students are already expressing their enthusiasm for the new facility, noting the stark contrast between the old building and the spacious, modern learning environment. "It was time for a change, and being in the new building is a good change," one student commented. "Being able to have more space to do activities in our classrooms is nice because our old classes were smaller, and now they are bigger. They hold more desks, and it allows more people to come to our school."

The old Zion Lutheran School building, a landmark since 1915, is scheduled to be demolished at 8 a.m. on Monday, September 8, 2025. The demolition will make way for future developments on the site, symbolizing the school's commitment to progress and its enduring legacy in the community.
