Kimball City Council approves creation of police department bank account for donations

KIMBALL -- The City Council approved Tuesday evening the creation of a bank account at Points West Community Bank for the police department to receive donations toward their K9 program.
The main goal is to raise funds for a replacement dual-purpose K9, as the previous one that was donated to the department did not pass certification.
The remaining funds will be used for anything encompassing the K9 program including dog food, vet bills, kennels, training aids and additional handler training, and K9 vehicle equipment such as heat alarm, door popper, coolers, ect.
“We have found there are a lot more expenses to running a K9 program,” said Chief of Police Jose Ruiz. “Our budget is limited, and if these funds can cover operating expenses for the K9 program, we can utilize budgetary funds for other needs within the department.”
The department will also apply for a grant to raise funds for the replacement K9.
