Sammy de Seriere Named Women's Wrestling Coach

CHADRON, Neb. – Chadron State College and Director of Athletics Mannie Reinsch have announced the hiring of former CSC assistant Sammy de Seriere (pronounced duh-sir-ee-air) as the school's new head women's wrestling coach.
"We are fortunate to have somebody like Sammy who is ready, willing and able to take the reins of the program," Reinsch said. "Chadron State has always been one of the trailblazers in collegiate women's wrestling, and as the sport moves under the NCAA this year, Sammy will allow us to keep the momentum our program has already built and put us in position to soar even higher."
de Seriere has spent the past two seasons as the team's lead assistant coach under Taylor Summers, who recently departed CSC for another coaching opportunity. Fellow assistant coach Giovanni Cassioppi will remain at Chadron State in that role.
"I'm so excited to step into this position," de Seriere said. "I believe the program has been on an upward trajectory for the past few years, and we plan on continuing that. I want to thank athletic director Mannie Reinsch and the rest of the CSC administration for the opportunity."
As an assistant coach at CSC, de Seriere was responsible for creating and executing practice plans and planning travel arrangements for the team and played a key role in the program's recruiting and relationships with existing Eagle student-athletes.
In his two years on staff at CSC, De Seriere has contributed to the Eagles qualifying eight wrestlers to the NCWWC National Championships across 2024 and 2025. He worked closely with Esther Peters, who became Chadron State's women's wrestling's first-ever All-American last season and, like de Seriere, is a heavyweight.
De Seriere began his coaching career in 2022-23 as a volunteer assistant for his alma mater, the men's wrestling program at Western Colorado. Overlapping with Summers, then a Mountaineers assistant coach, de Seriere helped Western place fourth nationally at the Division II National Championships during his lone season on staff, the program's first team trophy in 19 years.
As a student-athlete, de Seriere competed for Western Colorado for five years at heavyweight, once finishing in sixth place in Super Region VI. A strong student, de Seriere was a three-time Dean's List selection and earned Honorable Mention All-RMAC, RMAC All-Academic Honor Roll and NCAA Division II Scholar All-America honors as a senior.
De Seriere graduated from Western Colorado with a bachelor's in mathematics with a minor in sports psychology in 2022, then graduated from Chadron State with a master's in organizational management in 2025, earning a perfect 4.0 GPA in his graduate program.
