LINCOLN, Neb. – The Nebraska Department of Transportation has opened its 10th round of funding for the County Bridge Match Program, offering $4 million to counties for the replacement and repair of structurally deficient bridges.

The program funds 55% of eligible bridge construction costs, up to $500,000, while counties provide a 45% match. Eligible bridges must be in poor condition or have a low rating, span more than 20 feet, and be located on a roadway classified as a local road or better.

Since the program began in 2016, NDOT has received 549 proposals, selected 165, and repaired or replaced 385 bridges. More than $34 million has been awarded, generating more than $100 million in construction activity.

The County Bridge Match Program was created under the 2016 Transportation Innovation Act and renewed through LB 1030, signed into law in April 2024 by Gov. Jim Pillen. A working group with county highway superintendents and NDOT representatives oversees the program.

Requests for proposals opened Monday and must be submitted to NDOT by Oct. 17. Counties selected for funding will be notified by Dec. 5 and must complete construction by Dec. 31, 2028.
