NEBRASKA CITY, NE - The Lourdes Central Catholic Knights saw Callen Schnitzer start the season with an explosive performance in a 56-14 win over the Irish of Falls City-Sacred Heart.

LCC jumped ahead 14-0 on a pair of Schnitzer touchdown runs in the opening frame. FC-SH got a TD toss from Brenden Lemerond with just 22 seconds remaining in the quarter to give the Irish some hope of a comeback, making it a 14-6 ballgame. Schnitzer wouldn't have it, though, finding the end zone a third time as time expired in the quarter, pushing LCC ahead 22-6 after the first. The Irish never got closer.

Schnitzer finished the night with 23 carries for 269 yards and six touchdowns - all on the ground. Alec Schnitzer tacked on a TD run of his own, carrying the rock eleven times for 112 yards, and Carter Bennett threw a late touchdown for LCC.

Lemerond supplied the scoring for FC-SH with two TD tosses, but he was intercepted three times (Alec Schnitzer, Grant Martin, and Noah Boyer).

Overall, Lourdes more than doubled up Sacred Heart in yardage, 440-213.

Up next for the Knights is a battle with the Knights of Elmwood-Murdock. LCC takes on EM from Peru State College at 7p on Friday, in a game you can hear on B103 & B103.FM. FC-SH will visit BDS in week two action Friday.
