$10M bond set after troopers seize 60 pounds of meth in Nebraska traffic stop

SIDNEY, Neb. - A 29-year-old California man is in custody after Nebraska State Patrol troopers say they found 60 pounds of methamphetamine in his vehicle during a traffic stop on Interstate 80 near Sidney.
Elmer Posadas-Castro of El Monte, California, was arrested for possession of methamphetamine and possession with intent to deliver. His bond has been set at $10 million.
According to the Nebraska State Patrol, troopers pulled over a Honda CRV around 9 p.m. Monday, August 18 for driving on the shoulder at mile marker 66. Investigators say the stop quickly raised suspicion of criminal activity, and a search of the vehicle revealed dozens of packages of suspected meth in a suitcase.
According to court records, law enforcement had been watching for a California-plated Honda CRV that had been making repeated trips between California and Nebraska. A database check showed the vehicle had made numerous trips from California through Nebraska before returning to California, in several instances in under 48 hours.
Castro was booked into the Cheyenne County Jail. The investigation is ongoing.
His next court appearance is scheduled for Sept. 16.
