KEARNEY, Neb. - A new business in central Nebraska is offering more than just caffeine, it’s brewing creativity and connection.

Good Roast Coffee in Kearney is now open, and the team behind it says the shop is focused on both quality drinks and creating a welcoming space for locals.

Ty Carter is the general manager behind the new shop, but he’s not new to the scene.

He previously ran a local coffee truck called Underdog Coffee, and partnered with the owners of local restaurant Good Evans to bring this new venture to life.

Carter roasts beans in-house, carefully sourcing and preparing coffee with attention to every detail from elevation to temperature control in order to bring a craft coffee experience to the heart of Nebraska.

"It took a lot of work to get here- a lot of farmers, a lot of hands. Now it’s up to me to make it edible or not," said Carter "There’s a lot of weight in that."

Carter says some people may wonder if Kearney needs another coffee shop, but he believes it’s not about competition- it’s about community.

"We're just trying to do our own spin, and one of my favorite quotes is, 'a rising tide lifts all boats,'" Said Carter. "If we can do well and maybe bring something a little different, they can do well, and we can all rise together. Kearney as a community can just become more knowledgeable about coffee and just different things, and I like to do collaborative stuff. We're all in this together," said Carter.

While the drinks may be what bring people through the door, Carter hopes it’s the atmosphere that keeps them coming back.

He sees Good Roast as a place where ideas can spark, friendships can grow and the community can come together over a shared cup of Joe.
