Traffic light construction on Hwy 6 and Showboat Blvd intersection beginning early

HASTINGS, Neb. – The construction timeline on new traffic lights at the intersection of Highway 6 and Showboat Blvd in Hastings has been moved up, and will start today.
The project done by Commonwealth Electric Company of Grand Island was originally scheduled to begin on Monday, August 18, but is now beginning on Wednesday.
The construction work will replace the traffic pole in the northeast corner of the intersection.
The pole supports cables and traffic signals for northbound and eastbound traffic and was damaged in an accident on Sunday, June 15. The intersection has been functioning as a four-way stop since then.
During the construction, The Highway 6 westbound to northbound right turn lane will be closed to traffic.
Contractors are expected to complete by the end of the day on Friday Aug. 15.
The signals are anticipated to be put into service soon after installation of the replacement hardware.
Traffic signals at the intersection will be upgraded to steel poles with traffic signal mast arms as part of the Nebraska Department of Transportation’s Hastings Southeast Project scheduled for 2026 and 2027.
