NORFOLK, Neb. — A Wisconsin pilot isn’t hurt after making an emergency landing with his plane in a soybean field in Northeast Nebraska.

911 Dispatch in Norfolk received a report of a mayday call from an aircraft just before 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Multiple agencies responded and discovered a small plane in a field south of E Norfolk Ave. and Agnes Drive, which is just east of Norfolk’s city limits.

The Madison County Sheriff’s Office said Isaac Weix of Menomonie, Wisconsin was the pilot and was not injured.

Weix told authorities that he departed from Norfolk Regional Airport en route to Wisconsin. He reached an altitude of approximately 5,500 feet and experienced engine trouble. He said he attempted to return to the airport. Realizing he would not make it back, he turned the aircraft into the wind and executed an emergency landing in the bean field.

The Sheriff’s Office said the incident was reported to the appropriate aviation authorities.
