KEARNEY, Neb.-- Visitors who are planning trips to witness the spring sandhill crane migration will now have another option for lodging.

For the first time, Fort Kearny State Recreation Area will open reservations early to accommodate one of the busiest seasons for the area.

Starting September 2 at 9 a.m., guests may reserve stays at Fort Kearny beginning Mary 1 for the park's 38 reservable campsites. The remainder of the park will be available on a walk-in basis.

These early reservations are offered at the reduced non peak rate, as water-dependent amenities may not yet be available due to seasonal freeze risks.
