TORRINGTON, Wyo. – Torrington High School is the newest member of the Western Conference, with its participation beginning in the 2026–27 school year.

The announcement, made Thursday by the Western Conference, marks an expansion of the league, which now reaches into Eastern Wyoming for the first time. The conference, long recognized as one of the premier athletic leagues in Western Nebraska, is comprised of the region’s largest school districts.

Torrington High School, home of the Trailblazers, brings a strong history of athletic success, school pride and community support. Conference officials noted the school's size and culture make it a natural fit with existing members.

With Torrington’s addition, the Western Conference returns to six schools following Mitchell's departure at the end of the 2024–25 school year. The full lineup now includes Alliance, Chadron, Gering, Scottsbluff, Sidney and Torrington.

League officials said they are excited about the new opportunities for competition and the potential for new rivalries as Torrington transitions into the conference schedule.
