Columbus woman identified as person killed by police officer after alleged knife assault

Authorities are releasing more details on the woman killed by a police officer during a weekend incident.

COLUMBUS, Neb. — Authorities are releasing more details on the woman killed by a police officer during a weekend incident.

The Nebraska State Patrol says 33-year-old Lauree Jankowski was shot and killed after police say she attacked an officer. Police have said they were conducting an investigation in Columbus when Jankowski attacked an officer with a knife. Another officer shot an killed Jankowski at the scene.

The injured officer was treated and released from the hospital on Saturday. The officers have not yet been identified.

The state patrol says a grand jury will ultimately decide whether or not charges will be filed.
