STERLING, Colo. — Jax Grove of Peetz earned the top prize in the market beef division Friday, winning grand champion steer at the Logan County Fair & Rodeo.

Grove, a soon-to-be freshman, was one of many participants in the highly competitive show. Judges selected his steer as the top entry of the day, earning him the grand champion title.

“There were just a bunch of good steers here today,” Grove said. “It was fun. I had a good time. I was just happy we were able to get it done.”

Grove said his mother screamed and his father smiled when the results were announced. The win came ahead of Saturday’s junior livestock auction, where Strove planned to sell his steer and reinvest the earnings.

“I’ll probably buy a few heifers and invest in my business,” he said. “I’m trying to grow my herd for show cattle.”

He already has one steer at home for the 2026 fair.

The Logan County Fair & Rodeo concluded Sunday with the demolition derby.
