Heavyweight tips the scales just right
SYRACUSE - Grace Behmer, a 17-year-old who works with her 4-H hogs at a farm near Syracuse, showed the champion market barrow and reserve grand champion market gilt at the Otoe County Fair Friday.
Behmer: “They are both dark crossbreds, They’ve been working hard. We’ve all worked hard on these pigs and have done what we could to come out here and win.”

Behmer, who participates in the Nebraska Swine Circuit, said it’s gratifying to finish with a championship after her seven years of showing.
Judge Bryce Roberts of Holdrege gave the heavyweight classes high marks for a lot of shape and a lot of muscle and said they are definitely ready to go to market.

Roberts: “There’s no doubt it’s pounds that pay.”
He chose Behmer’s 282-pound pig out the heavyweight barrow division, but said the pigs in the 320 pound range were getting too heavy.
Behmer said fed her pigs the right amount through the summer to keep them at the right weight.
