Huskers confident in keeping the standard at defensive line
LINCOLN, Neb. - Exactly a month out from kickoff in Kansas City, the Huskers kicked off fall camp in Lincoln, Monday morning.
Head Coach Matt Rhule saying the Huskers are looking to establish the standard of effort, leading up to the season opener against Cincinnati.
As the Huskers turn the page to year three of the Rhule era, the defensive line is in the spot light - how will the huskers bounce back after losing young pieces to the portal, but also veterans to the NFL?
Coach Rhule and junior Cameron Lenhardt have full faith in the front line.
“We’ve got a little chip on our shoulder,” Lenhardt said. “We’ve got great leadership coming in, he’s preached a lot, and taught us a lot… We’re going to go out there and perform.”
“I’ve seen them lift, I've seen them run, I’ve seen them grow,” Rhule said. “The only thing that’s going to limit them is their own brains… Sometimes I don’t think they know that they’re good. They don’t know yet, ‘Can I do it’… Sometimes expectation is that one thing that can buoy us or bring us back.”
The defensive line has a new leader in the form of decorated assistant coach Terry Bradden… Bradden comes to Nebraska after four years as defensive line coach for the Kansas City Chiefs, helping KC to back to back Super Bowl titles. Lenhardt says experience is the key element Bradden has brought to Lincoln.
“He just brings back a lot of juice to practice and meetings,” Lenhardt said. “He wants to get to know you on a personal level and he’s bringing a lot of experience from Kansas City, like working with Chris Jones, now he’s bringing it to us.”
Nebraksa’s defense ranked top 10 in the county a year ago against the run… The Blackshirts look to establish that same standard in 2025.
