Columbus - The Nebraska state legislature deficit is on the minds of voters. While meeting at the Columbus Chamber of Commerce, Senator Mike Moser talked with locals about concerns over the state budget and related cuts. The Unicameral entered the previous session with a more than 200-million-dollar deficit and attempted to address it through spending cuts. Moser says he doesn’t believe that a special session will be needed as the state has a big balance in reserves.

“More than likely, when we come back in January, we can look at any mid-year adjustments if there are any prudent to make.”

Moser says he is looking forward to how the Big Beautiful Bill could help bring in more revenue in the agriculture sector. The legislature doesn’t meet again until January. At that point, senators will review the latest financial reports and could make further adjustments to the budget.
