In partnership with local economic organizations, the Southeast Nebraska Development District (SENDD) will be hosting Fair Housing information booths in Geneva and Hebron this Thursday, July 17.

Hosted locally by Fillmore County Development Group and Thayer County Economic Development Alliance and executed across the region by SENDD, Thursday's info sessions will provide residents of both Fillmore and Thayer Counties an opportunity to learn more about the Fair Housing Act. It's a local byproduct of a grant to reinforce housing programs statewide.

"If you are looking to rent or purchase a home, you can learn about how the Fair Housing Act protects your rights to receive equal housing opportunities. You can also learn about what to do if you think your rights to fair housing have been violated. Landlords, home sellers, Realtors, and lenders can get information about Fair Housing Act changes that went into effect on December 31, 2015," according to a press release.

In Geneva, the booth will be open from 10 AM to 11 AM on Thursday, July 17 at the FCDC main location at 1320 G Street. The booth will then move south to Hebron from 11:45 AM to 12:45 PM in the Club Room at the Thayer County Courthouse, located at 225 N 4th St.

"Title VIII of the Civil Rights Act of 1968 (Fair Housing Act) prohibits discrimination in the sale, rental and financing of dwellings based on race, color, religion, sex or national origin. Title VIII was amended in 1988 to expand the coverage of the Fair Housing Act to prohibit discrimination based on disability or familial status (presence of child under age of 18, and pregnant women)," the release said.
