VALENTINE, Neb. - A man arrested after a June confrontation involving shouting, road rage, and a gun being drawn on Valentine’s Main Street has been sentenced to probation.

Brad Ohlmann was charged with two counts of disturbing the peace after several witnesses reported him yelling profanities from an SUV at construction workers and later at a man standing in his yard.

Shortly after, police were called to the Cherry County Justice Center for a report of a man pointing a gun at another person. According to court documents, the man with the gun told officers he was being followed by a white SUV. He said the male passenger in the vehicle was flipping him off and shouting obscenities.

Fearing for his safety, the man drove to the Justice Center hoping to deter the pursuit. When the SUV pulled up next to him and the passenger allegedly began to get out, the man pointed a shotgun at him. That man turned out to be Ohlmann.

Later, another woman told police Ohlmann had also yelled vulgarities at her while she was with her children.

According to the affidavit, responding officers found Ohlmann intoxicated, noting the strong smell of alcohol and erratic behavior. Ohlmann allegedly told police he had been angry at construction workers who wouldn't let him cross 4th Street, which was closed for roadwork.

“I was later advised by jail staff that Brad had made the statement that it was not illegal to assault someone verbally,” the affidavit reads.
