It’s county fair season, and while the funnel cakes and corn dogs are a big draw, these kids are more excited to show off their calves.

At the Madison County Fair, the 4-H Bucket Calf Competition is for ages 7 through 12. It's split into three competitions.

The competitions are designed to teach kids basic management of their calves from not just showing them off, but knowledge and record taking. Ann Grant of Madison has her three kids in the event. She says she's happy they're learning life lessons.

Other 4-H competitions at the fair are underway, from dogs to hogs. The winners will be announced at Three PM on Friday and will have the opportunity to compete in the Nebraska State Fair. The Madison County fair will continue through Sunday.
