KEARNEY, Neb. --

A brand new, $72 million law enforcement building in Kearney will come down to the voters of Buffalo County.

The Buffalo County Commissioners moving to bring a bond vote to residents in September.

Currently, the Buffalo County Sheriff's Office and Kearney Police Department share a building in downtown, a place they've been located for more than 30 years.

City and county officials agree the law enforcement partnership has outgrown their current location.
If approved, the new facility would be located where the old Midtown Western Inn was along 2nd Avenue, before getting torn down at the end of 2024.

The mail-in ballots are going out from Aug. 18-22 and they are due by Sept. 9.

Construction would run from May 2026 through August 2028 and there would be a grand opening in August or September 2028 if all goes to plan.
