KIMBALL -- Kimball Hospital has a bright, new crosswalk thanks to partnerships around the community taking a simple idea and bringing it to life.

The Kimball Health Services staff wanted to brighten up the walkway that connects the hospital and the ambulance bay east of the Emergency Room entrance.

Erin Jefferis with KHS approached the Activate Kimball committee with the idea to design a crosswalk as part of the Creative Crosswalks initiative.

So far this year, Activate Kimball has completed four crosswalk projects, including the hospital project. They refreshed the downtown Lincoln design and the elementary crosswalks and painted a new design on the high school crosswalks.

The Kimball Hospital crosswalk project had several hands involved, who KHS extended their gratitude toward in a Facebook post last week.

Kimball Hospital staff designed the crosswalk, purchased the paint, and donated their time to paint it.

KHS stated in their post: “Your willingness to show up, get your hands dirty, and make something beautiful for our town is deeply appreciated. You’ve painted more than just a crosswalk—you’ve left a mark of pride and connection that we can all walk across with a smile.”

Activate Kimball participated in organizing the project. Janelle Visser with Panhandle Public Health District helped guide this project from concept to reality. The City of Kimball extended their support throughout the planning and installation process while providing helping hands in creating it.

KHS also included a special shoutout to the local Ace Hardware, stating: “We appreciate having a friendly, hometown store where we can get what we need to make projects like this possible. Thank you for being part of the fabric of our community.”

The crosswalk symbolizes what can happen when people come together with a shared vision.

Jamie Bright with Activate Kimball said, “We’re really excited to have the hospital on board with Active Kimball, and we think the crosswalk will be a good addition to the community.”
