District 47 Legislative Update

LINCOLN --As we approach Independence Day, I extend my heartfelt wishes for a safe and joyful celebration.
It is an honor to serve you.
On Independence Day, we reflect on the extraordinary courage and vision of our nation's founders, who boldly declared our independence and laid the foundation for the freedoms we cherish today. As we gather with family and friends to enjoy fireworks, parades, and barbecues, let us celebrate and be grateful for the blessings of being proud Nebraskans and Americans.
Beyond the festivities, Independence Day reminds us of our founding principles and our ongoing responsibility to uphold them. It encourages reflection on the progress we’ve made. At just 33 years old, Thomas Jefferson traveled to Pennsylvania and authored one of history’s greatest documents: the Declaration of Independence.
In 1776, this document marked the culmination of centuries of Western thought, spirit, wisdom, philosophy, and reason, made manifest by the courage of 56 patriots who gathered in Philadelphia 249 years ago, enshrining the divine truth that all men are created equal.
Today, democracy in the United States means that power resides with the people. It is exercised through free and fair elections and the protection of individual rights. Our nation depends on individual rights and active participation to function effectively.
The concepts of freedom, democracy, and the Fourth of July are far from static, they evolve with our nation’s growth and challenges. They celebrate past achievements and call us to future progress. By embracing these ideals, Americans honor their history and contribute to the ongoing journey toward a more perfect union.
Happy Independence Day and God Bless America!
