SIDNEY – Connor Schumacher gave up three runs on two hits in the top of the first inning Tuesday night against Platte Valley Companies Chadron Post 12 Juniors at Legion Field. The right hander then did not allow a hit over his next four innings on the mound to lead the Sidney Platte Valley Companies Post 17 Juniors to an 11-3 win to improve to 10-4 on the season.

Sidney countered with two runs on three hits in the bottom of the first to cut the Chadron advantage to 3-2. After a three up three down top half of the second, Sidney exploded for five runs on five hits in the home half of the inning, paced by a double by Conner Schumacher that drove in two, to take the lead, 7-3.

Sidney continued to add to their lead by scoring two runs in the third, one in the fourth, and one more in the fifth to end the game.

Conner Schumacher earned the win for Sidney. The righty surrendered two hits and three runs over five innings, striking out seven and walking three. Tobin Landen took the loss for Chadron. The lefty went three and one-third innings, surrendering 10 runs, eight earned, on 10 hits, striking out two and walking three.

Rhys Dorcey paced Sidney by going three of four at the plate. Kyle Jaggers went two of three and Anderson Smelley two of four as Sidney banged out 12 hits in the game.

Sidney will travel to Alliance on Sunday for a Junior triangular with Alliance and Chadron. Sidney will face Alliance Peltz Company Junior Spartans at 11:00 a.m. followed by another matchup with Platte Valley Companies Chadron Post 12 Juniors at 1:00 p.m.

In the nightcap, the Sidney Platte Valley Companies Post 17 Seniors scored four runs on five hits, then held on for a 4-3 win over the Platte Valley Companies Chadron Post 12 Seniors. With the win, the Sidney Seniors improved their record to 3-5 on the season.

Kyle Jaggers pitched six innings for the Sidney Seniors, yielding two runs on six hits while striking out four. Calvin Borgmann relieved Jaggers in the seventh, giving up one run on one hit to close out the game.

The Sidney Platte Valley Companies Post 17 Seniors will travel on Monday for a matchup with Ogallala Adams Bank and Trust 18U at 7:00 p.m. in Ogallala.
